If you're looking for something to share with students, children and Grandchildren, then these books are perfect. Fabulous stories and beautiful illustrations and such positive messages.

Polonius the Pit Pony
When a family of Travelling woodworkers take in an unwanted Pit Pony, little do they know he's going to be their hero!

"What a pleasure to read!  With lively text, lovingly drawn illustrations and engaging plot, both my boys were captivated.

I would strongly recommend this book because it is a multi-layered, stereotype-challenging book about determination and courage and kindness. And it is just lovely to read and to think about, even long after you’ve come to the end of it."    Amy, Isaac, age 5 and Cassius, age 3.

What's your Parno Gry?

Traveller girl Ossiri proves that a lack of money is no barrier to making your own musical instrument and even when no one else seems to like the noise you make, if you believe in yourself amazing things can happen.
What's your Tatting Django?

This story made me feel hopeful towards the future. ‘Yokki and the Parno Gry’ is a wonderful tale of what a child’s hope and imagination can bring to a family, Ruby Leigh Smith

Books we've done for fun with schools
Great opportunity to create your own book from one of Richard's stories.
Children get to spend time with Richard making the book, doing the editing, the covers and then selling the book.
Here's some we did earlier

Maisie Poole Rules the School
One ordinary primary school, one ordinary Head teacher one reception child and one extraordinary government idea, RKTO!
Cute little reception kid Maisie Poole is whisked from pupil to Head teacher overnight. Now in complete charge of Fairto Middling Primary school and with the regular Head teacher banished to reception class as a pupil, Maisie can do whatever she likes - making a new set of rules is just the first step on her hilarious journey as the youngest and bossiest Head teacher in the country.

This amazing book is hilarious and I recommend it to anyone who likes comical and surprising things.
Full of creativity, laughter and interesting characters, it is unputdownable.

Funny and subversive.

Good clean subversive fun, perfect for upper, KS2, KS3 to read on their own or ideal for family reading. Allows children to have fun with their reading but also to see school in a completely different light..

Fabulous Mr Ford and the school for storytelling. The story that started it all

Picture

The novel started life a story, then came together as a literary enterprise project at Canon Lee specialist performing arts college in York, the project named  ‘A Write Good Read’ . We wanted to create a really good book, easy to read but full of meaning we think we’ve done that.

*A heart warming story full of fun and meaning and overwhelming positive about good teachers and the benefits of education.

*Successfully tackles discrimination in a very mature and positive way and gives an insight into modern Traveller life

Hi Richard,
I love the story and it's a good page turner, I had to read it all in one go! I'm not surprised at the great reviews.  Alison Jones York Libraries

This project is an excellent example of how young people from a wide range of backgrounds can all benefit from working together inspired by the ‘power’ of a good book. Richard O’Neill’s story has proved to be an excellent vehicle for young people to appreciate the issues of the characters and the ‘business’ of publishing them through a range of innovative projects whilst sharing their learning with others.

Fabulous Mr Ford and the School for Storytelling is an excellent new novel.  Set in Fenland in the East of England, the book tells the story of Traveller boy Levi Stewart and his problems with schools, especially his latest ‘Tench Diem’, run by the detention obsessed Mr Davies, Levi lasts until lunchtime. When Mr Ford the local Traveller education teacher gets involved Levi is offered a place at a school he finally likes. This is the start of Levi’s adventure, using his talent of storytelling, making friends setting up a lunchtime storytelling club and entering a literary competition. However if his team of misfits are to have any chance of winning let alone avoiding an embarrassing defeat there are many challenges to face and obstacles to overcome. Levi draws strength from his family, new friends and neighbours and especially Mr Ford, but will it be enough?

An excerpt from the book

Mrs Moore smiled and said; ‘I want students at this school to enjoy themselves, to have fun because if you don’t enjoy what you are doing, you won’t be very good at it.’ I said; ‘My dad says that.’ ‘What does he think of school?’ She asked. I said; ‘He wants me to go to school and learn to do something different, something that I really like.’ ‘Levi is a brilliant storyteller’ said Mr Ford ‘Oh are you,’ said Mrs Moore. ‘I think story is important to everything we do. We have a number of lunchtime clubs if you are good at something or just have an interest in it,

we encourage you to share that with others.’
